The brief for this project was to design a floating Theatre, that could move about the Venetian lagoon and establish itself for performance at 3 different sites. The brief also stated that the program should include a restuarant and gallery, and the vessel should break into smaller vessels to get down smaller canals.

I took inspiration the painting of Carpaccio’s below; i liked the way that Venice itself is a stageset, a dramatic backdrop for the performance of everyday life. I wanted the architecture itself to perform, so i designed the vessel as an object that theatrically opens at each site to reveal the stage; the theatre itself is one of the actors. I also chose the make the theatre an outdoor space, so that Venice itself forms the backdrop for performance- and sites can be chosen that are appropriate for each performance.
